description Lake Leatherwood City Park is a place of natural serenity encompassing 1600 acres which includes an 85 acre spring-fed lake, nearly 25 miles of trails, boat rentals, boat launch, cabins and campsites. The lake is formed by one of the largest hand-cut native limestone dams in the country. The dam and several structures at the park were built in the early 1940's by the WPA. Lake Leatherwood Park is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

The town is often calle "Little Switzerland, The Stair Step Town or the Swiss Alps of the Ozarks. There are over 200 miles of mountain biking trails within and hours drive of Lake Leatherwood in locations such as Fayretteville, Bentonville, The Buffalo National River.

recreationDescription Hiking and mountain biking are popular activities at Lake Leatherwood. The park has 25 miles of trails; many of which are hand-cut single-track trails that are challenging for beginners through experts. The park boasts one of the areas few true downhill courses and the rugged terrain offers drops of 15 feet in some areas. There are also beginner trails for new bikers. The Beachum Trail encompasses the lake and offers breathtaking views of the dam and lake as you circle the lake. Anglers will also enjoy the spring fed waters of Lake Leatherwood, which is full of bass, bream, crappie and catfish. Spring offers excellent fishing for redear sunfish and other species as temperatures rise.
